XR for Patient Education Featured at MDIC MedXR Summit

This year’s MedXR Summit, hosted by the Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC), included a full panel on XR for Patient Education. That is something that would have been unlikely even a year ago. It reflects a broader shift where patient comprehension is being taken seriously.

The panel brought together people working across clinical care, research, and immersive tech. The conversation stayed grounded in the realities of healthcare delivery and covered what’s practical, what’s being tested, and what’s actually being used with patients. Too often, educational tools are treated as add-ons rather than part of the care plan itself.

Participants shared examples from health literacy research, clinical pilot programs, and national testing efforts. Several touched on the importance of plain language, short-form formats, and tools that work for patients with different levels of digital access or experience.

It’s encouraging to see this kind of discussion taking place in national forums. Designing for patient understanding—across literacy levels, device access, and clinic workflows is core to how we improve care.
